About This Plex

Hi! I’m Anthony, as you know. And I’m a person who loves music, TV, and most of all: movies. As everyone on earth has already noticed, the state of pop culture and streaming is in disrepair, with mediocre providers charging constantly inflating costs for less features, all to offer you a tepid selection of Redbox-caliber movies you’ve seen 5 times before.

On a personal, anecdotal level, I grew extremely tired of seeing a new movie I loved, something which really moved me, to the point where I get vulnerable and recommend it to a friend… and inevitable being met with “...is it on Netflix?“.

“No”, I’d say. “Of course it’s not. Nothing is on there.” and that would be that.

After decades of collecting and consuming media, I decided it was time to put up or shut up: to make my own “Personal Netflix”, if I could.. It turns out, a lot of other people are sick of the exact same things, so tools do exist to make that happen.

I am currently running a server from my home in Sacramento, CA onto which I’ve loaded all of my media — encoded, formatted, and organized. “Plex” is server application which takes my files and presents them in a beautiful UI that looks as good as any modern streamer. Best of all, it lets me stream that collection to my friends (and myself) for free. I love pretty much every kind of movie, so hopefully it’s not bent too far toward “boy movies”.

If there is a drawback, it’s that Plex takes a little bit more know-how out of the gate than, say, Hulu. By following the steps on the Guide Hub, you will find that Plex is very easy to use, and fun too!

My personal, long-term goal with this service is to collect just about every major, popular (tbh mostly American) film that has come out since the ~early 70s — movies people actually want to watch. Everything. In one place. Hey, it just might happen.
