With a little knowledge of Plex’s excellent filters mechanic and the Collections feature, it should always be easy to find something to watch.
To make it easy, there are two main Collections I recommend checking out: AK’s 5 Star Picks & AK’s 4+ Star Picks. Also check out Recently Added, which is a feed in the home screen.
Get to Collections by clicking Movies in left sidebar > Collections at the top of the page.
To go to filters, click Movies > Library. On the top left you will see “All 🔽”. Click All to see the various filters. Clicking a filter will open a submenu with options for each category.
If you want to get real specific, Plex even allows you to combine multiple filters to drill down even further. In the example above, I’m looking at [ Comedy ] movies released in [ 2023 ], sorted by critics’ ratings.

The other best way to find movies is Collections. Plex allows admins to create Collections, which compile lists of movies based on certain subtypes. I have collections for Rom-Coms, collections for Halloween movies, collections of all films made by famous directors, and even collections meant for individuals, where I give them a list of films I personally recommend.
Collections are my way of recommending what I think is the very best stuff on my server. I hope you find them helpful too!!
